How we helped 80 children with this year’s summer programme
As the summer ends, we’re celebrating the success of our summer kids programme.
We know that keeping children busy during the summer holidays is a challenge for many parents.
Our holiday scheme welcomed up to 80 children aged 5 to 14 for five action-packed weeks this summer.
Here’s what the children got up to and how you can get involved in the future.
Learning and Making Friends
Local children were welcomed to Jubilee Hall where days were filled with epic table tennis tournaments, dancing, arts and crafts, and football.
When the sun came out, we headed to Brockwell Park for outdoor fun and playing in water.
Every child received a nutritious meal each day, with all dietary needs and allergies catered for.
We also organised special workshops where children made jewellery and personalised key holders.
The pride on their faces as they showed off their creations was absolutely brilliant. Face painting transformed everyone into tigers, butterflies, and superheroes for a day and left the children smiling.
Visits to Cinema and Museum
We know how important it is for children to try new experiences, go to places they haven’t been before and experience arts and culture, that’s why our summer schemes always have fun day trips.
The children visited the cinema to watch Bad Guys 2 with popcorn and packed lunches, where laughter during the film was the best soundtrack.
At the Imperial War Museum, they tried on replica uniforms, explored wartime vehicles, and asked brilliant questions throughout. We finished with a picnic in the gardens, everyone buzzing about their favourite discoveries.
Our beach trip to Joss Bay was unforgettable. Children jumped in waves, built sandcastles and played games. By the time we got back on the coach, most were fast asleep—always the sign of a brilliant day.
MORE THAN CHILDCARE
These five weeks offered more than childcare. They gave children chances to try new things, build confidence, make new friends, and have experiences that might not otherwise be possible—all while being part of a community that looks after each other.
Watching older children take younger ones under their wing was lovely.
Friendships formed across different ages, and a happy community quickly took shape.
For parents, it meant peace of mind knowing their children were safe, happy, and having the time of their lives.
