Meet the new Councillors for Tulse Hill Estate

Did you hear that following the local elections in May, Tulse Hill Estate is now represented by three councillors from the Green Party? They are Councillor Sacha Takyi-Berko, Councillor Zvikomborero Chihoro and Councillor Viktor Westerdahl.
We have been in touch to invite them to our monthly residents meetings. We also spoke exclusively to Zvikomborero Chihoro about his priorities for residents like us. Read on to hear what he had to say and how to contact your new Councillors.
1. What's your view on the role of council and social housing?
Social housing is one of the most important responsibilities a council has. A secure, safe and affordable home provides the foundation for people to build their lives, support their families and thrive in their communities.
Councils have a responsibility not only to provide homes but to ensure they are well maintained, that residents are listened to, and that tenants feel they have a genuine voice in decisions affecting their homes and estates.
2. What are your priorities for social and council housing tenants in Lambeth?
My priorities are ensuring residents have safe, well-maintained homes, that repairs are dealt with effectively, and that tenants have confidence that their concerns are being heard.
I also want to see stronger relationships between the Council, tenants and Tenant and Resident Associations, because residents themselves are the experts in understanding what their communities need.
More broadly, I want to support communities to thrive by improving opportunities, strengthening local services and ensuring housing is part of a wider approach to tackling inequality.
3. What is your advice to tenants on Tulse Hill Estate who struggle with housing issues, what is the best way to be heard by Lambeth?
The best advice I can give is to keep reporting issues through the proper channels, keep records of correspondence and reference numbers, and work collectively with your neighbours and TRA where possible.
As councillors, we are here to help residents navigate council processes, raise concerns with officers and ensure issues are followed up. Residents should not feel that they have to struggle alone, so please continue to engage with your councillors and community representatives.
4. What was it that made you get involved in politics or your community?
I got involved in politics because I believe communities are strongest when people look out for one another and when residents have a real voice in the decisions that affect their lives.
A deeply personal experience that shaped my commitment to public service was losing my best friend to suicide last November. That experience reinforced for me how important it is that people feel supported, connected and able to access help when they need it. It strengthened my determination to work on issues that affect people’s everyday lives, including mental health, housing, opportunities for young people and building stronger communities.
For me, politics is ultimately about people. It is about listening, showing up, and working with communities to create positive change.
